Yes, thank you Jen, I’m eager to have you meet --- and gain any insights you may have on ways to help him. I want to sincerely thank you for putting us onto Sandstone Neurofeedback, --- did about 100 neurofeedback sessions starting in April that ended last week. They did the initial 3-month program and then extended two extra months. They seem to have benefited from the sessions as both boys are trying to go medication free this school year. We’ll see how things progress but so far -- feels like he doesn’t need meds except for important times like final exams or an important test. -- is also trying to go med free, and I’ve asked his advisor and teachers to watch him and see if he’s able to focus, contribute to the class, and generally pay attention. The verdict is still out, but -- seems to have his situation well in hand. -- mostly stopped the tics/stimming he’s done for many years, we assumed he would grow out of them, but he never really did. He thinks the neurofeedback was the catalyst for reducing his tics.
--- took the practice SAT last spring and made a 1200, so we enrolled him into Woodlands Test Prep, and after taking the prep course and completing several months of neurofeedback he made a 1560 on his next SAT. That’s incredible, and we were so proud of how hard he worked to get ready for that test, when he wants something, he laser focuses and gets it done. Also, -- saw Dr. West and she prescribed the prism lenses that we had made at Warby Parker for a steal, that place is a real value. Unfortunately, -- can’t stand to read fiction, so it was nearly impossible to get him to read the type of books Dr. West suggested. I even made a reading log that he would earn $5 for every day he read 20 minutes with the glasses, but he wouldn’t do it. He did say that he’s been using the glasses for normal reading assignments so maybe there will be some benefit if not the complete benefit he would get from reading a world-building fantasy series like Harry Potter. Wears prescription glasses so I’m eager to see if he has a similar reading challenge -- has and could benefit from prismatic lenses as well.
Again, thank you for the truly impactful insight you gave us with your evaluation of --, implementing the recommendations has been transformative for the boys. Dr. -- who initially evaluated -- and -- was a respected and accomplished clinical psychologist, but she gave us nothing to help the boys except for a diagnosis that facilitated accommodation. She didn’t take the time to learn about the resources and modalities that you recommended that have been far more impactful to the boys than just medicating them into submission. She may have a Ph.D., and a huge office filled with 30 years of books, decorations, and Persian rugs, but she can’t compare to you when it comes to actually helping the child. Anyone could have diagnosed their ADHD but very few make the effort to read and learn about new and unconventional ways of legitimately helping those with ADHD. Thank you!
