Meet Melissa
Dr. Melissa Mignogna specializes in pediatric/child assessment and treatment. She received her graduate education in the Clinical Psychology program at Oklahoma State University and completed her pre-doctoral internship in the pediatric/child psychology track at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), a member of the LEND (i.e., Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) network of training institutions. At UAB, she gained extensive training in the assessment of children presenting with complex developmental, behavioral, medical and psychological difficulties. Dr. Mignogna completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), where she received specialized training in pediatric psychology. While at TCH, Dr. Mignogna provided inpatient consultations for hospitalized children/adolescents, as well as outpatient psychotherapy services to children, teens and families presenting with a broad range of pediatric issues.
Dr. Mignogna’s primary clinical interests include adjustment and adaptation to pediatric chronic illness and improving adherence to pediatric medical regimens.
Her clinical training also included heavy emphasis on the use of non-pharmacological approaches to managing pediatric pain. Dr. Mignogna has experience in the treatment of pediatric feeding disorders, “picky eaters,” encopresis, sleep difficulties, school anxiety, recurrent pain, headaches, conversion disorders and terminal illness/end-of-life issues. Clinical interests also include Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and behavior management therapy for families. Additionally, Dr. Mignogna has extensive experience in conducting developmental, educational and neuropsychological assessments with children/teens. She gained specialized training in the diagnosis of developmental delays, learning disorders, ADHD and Autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Mignogna is a strong advocate for multidisciplinary team approaches to assessment/treatment, and regularly consults with doctors, schools and other professionals.
